Sometimes this backyard farming gig gets really messy!

It has been raining almost everyday for over a week now.  By rain, I don't mean sprinkle, but rather intermittent thunderstorms complete with massive downpours.

While grateful for the rain (much needed around here), the way we are getting it is making for a sloppy mess out back.

This picture was taken yesterday when I went out to feed the pigs.  It was the day I discovered my boots leak.  Not a good place to make that discovery!

New space to clear....

Thelma and Louise

The goats played on the wood pile while we were moving their fence.

In addition to a new area to clear, they are getting a new shed.  It doesn't have sides on it yet, but it will soon.  What it does have is wheels, making it easy to move around.  Nice!

Here they are on top of their old makeshift shed.  As you can see, they did a good job of clearing the underbrush where they were.

If you have underbrush, weeds or other vegetation that needs to be cleared, we'd highly recommend pet goats!  They are sweet, fun, hard working and very low maintenance.   Thelma and Louise hang out around the house during the day and come running to see what we are doing whenever we are outside.  We love them!

Currently growing in the garden....

Right now we are enjoying peppers, okra and tomatoes from the garden.  We had a couple of weeks of extra hot weather recently that seemed to stress the tomato plants and made our tomatoes have some blemishes, but trust me when I tell you they taste great!

We are learning a lot this inaugural year with the raised beds.  I can see how the green house is really going to help us with doing even better next year.  Starting seeds early so you can plant small plants rather than seeds when the season is right makes for a longer period of harvesting.

Getting the job done

Success!

This is the first day we've had the guineas make their way up onto the raised bed garden and do their job ~ rid the raised bed garden of bugs.

And just as advertised, they worked their way around without damaging any plants.

 AWESOME!

Making themselves at home.....

Look who was peering in our kitchen window this evening.

Don't know what the attraction was, but these two decided to come up on the porch and stand on the grill to see what was going on inside.
